Grinnell Professor of Anthropology and Global Development Studies, Monty Roper is running the Chicago Marathon on October 7th in order to raise money for the Social Entrepreneurs of Grinnell.  While this will be his first ever marathon, and this is the first year he has EVER run more than a 5k, he has logged more than 1000 miles and gone through a pair of running shoes since February in an effort to meet that challenge.  A private sponsor has agreed to match any pledge to this effort dollar-for-dollar up to $3000, if Monty can finish in under 4 hours.  There are currently several rewards for various pledge amounts including:

Pledge $5 and receive an autographed db.grinnell.edu photo of Monty!
– Pledge $10. Receive a beautiful photo of Monty expressing any emotion: Fear? Angst? Joy? (shorts may be available)
– Pledge $50 all previous benefits AND Monty will incorporate a single sentence of up to 15 words into any lecture nonchalantly like nothing is out of the ordinary.

To pledge, email SEG [grinnellmicrofinance@gmail.com] or Monty [roperjm@grinnell.edu]!

EDIT: Professor Roper ran the Chicago Marathon in 3 hours and 52 minutes, an incredible time! His race helped raise more than $6000 in pledges for SEG, funds which will support our continuing and upcoming microfinance and entrepreneurial projects, such as International Loans, Financial Skills classes, and Credit-Building Loans. Thank you to everyone who pledged!
