SEG is greatly saddened to share the news of the passing of our Executive Director, Dan Volk, on March 12, 2025. Dan volunteered for many years with SEG, and he was a wonderful asset to our organization. He took great joy in being able to help people create plans and identify ways to improve their financial literacy and situations. We will miss his positive presence and his sports team updates! We send our deepest condolences to his family.

Dan was been a Grinnell resident for 23 years.  He retired from Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, where he served as Audit Manager for more than 15 years. Originally from Carroll, Iowa, Dan was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned an accounting degree. Prior to working for Grinnell Mutual, Dan worked as an auditor for the Iowa Auditor’s office. Dan enjoyed life with his wife, LuAnn, their two daughters, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In his new role, Dan looked forward to working with loan applicants to explore ways to improve their personal financial situation.  He stated, “I would like to help people set up their personal budgets, work with them for several months to compare actual results as they find ways to save money, and then set new goals for the money saved.”
