About the Group

Social Entrepreneurs of Grinnell (SEG) was founded in April 2007 by Jeff Raderstrong ’09 at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. Grinnell has a historical focus on issues of social justice, and SEG’s efforts help to maintain and further that legacy. SEG is also one of the first college groups that focuses solely on collecting money on campus for microfinance loans and now we have entered the world of directly offering microfinance loans. Money is collected through canvassing, donations from alumni and trustees, and through fundraisers such as the semesterly FogFast fundraiser at Grinnell College. SEG hopes to expand its activities into more educational events and hands-on internships as we continue to grow as an organization. With a large international community on campus, SEG hopes to bring together multiple campus groups interested in supporting microfinance loans in the third world. We hope to reach out to multicultural and international groups as well as Off-Campus Study students who may help connect us to possible loan recipients.

But we are not simply a campus group. We have expanded our efforts and our involvement to truly be a microfinance organization merging campus and community and continue to foster this relationship.

The Website

The website and logo were designed and implemented by Mark Root-Wiley ’09. In late 2009, the SEG website moved from a flat-HTML site to WordPress in hopes of making the website more stable and maintainable. We continue to update the structure and content, stay posted. Hosting for this website is graciously donated by Dreamhost.
